Let’s Explore Sidney Spit

August 15 @ 7:30 am - 5:00 pm

Please join us for a day of exploration of  the Sidney Spit Marine Park.  We will travel by BC Ferries and take the shuttle boat to Sidney Island where we will be greeted by numerous Purple Martins who have a nesting colony on the docks.  We are likely to see large numbers of shorebirds from the beach as they will be at the peak of their migration.  After lunch we will explore the forest trails where we can see towering Douglas Firs, along with an extraordinary variety of other conifers and deciduous trees.  Dress for the weather, bring your lunch and your binoculars.  This is a great opportunity to practise your shorebird identification skills in a stunning coastal setting.  Private boat transportation to Sidney Island may be available, depending on the number of participants.  Costs will be shared by the participants.  Please register at pifn@shaw.ca by July 31st if you would like to join us.  “First come, first served!”
