Sidney Spit: Shoreline Migration Field Trip

August 28

On Wednesday August 28 join us for a day of exploration of the Sidney Spit Marine Park.  We will take the 8 am ferry to Swartz Bay and then carpool to the passenger shuttle boat to Sidney Island where we will be greeted by numerous Purple Martins who have a nesting colony on the docks.  We are likely to see large numbers of shorebirds from the beach as they will be at the peak of their migration.  After lunch we will explore the forest trails where we can see towering Douglas Firs, along with an extraordinary variety of other conifers and deciduous trees.  Dress for the weather, bring your lunch and your binoculars.  This is a great opportunity to practise your shorebird identification skills in a stunning coastal setting.

We will return to Sidney in the afternoon and take the evening ferry back to Pender. Costs will be shared by the participants.

Please register at pifn@shaw.ca by August 14th if you would like to join us.
