Whales in our Waters, Citizen Science and Whale Conservation Presented by: Aaron Purdy

On Friday September 13 we are pleased to present Aaron Purdy from Ocean Wise with an
illustrated talk entitled The Whales in our Waters. Aaron, who holds a Masters Degree in Marine
Conservation, is is a Research Biologist with Ocean Wise's Marine Mammal Research Program,
and Coordinator of its newly established Southern Vancouver Island Cetacean Research
Initiative. There have been a number of news items lately about the challenges faced by Orcas in
the Salish Sea. Part of his study work includes Orcas but goes beyond. Learn about the threats
facing whales in our waters, what’s being done to protect them and how you can contribute to
their conservation by reporting your sightings to the BC Cetacean Sightings Network.
